Description of the objectives of the learning experience:
ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC LEARNING REQUIREMENTS:
Reading
Understands and uses different skills and strategies to read.
Understands the meaning of what is read.
Reads different materials for a variety of purposes.
Set goals and evaluates progress to improve.
Writing
The student writes clearly and effectively.
The student writes in a variety of forms for different audiences and purposes.
The student understands and uses the steps of the writing process.
The student analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of written work.
Math
Understands and applies math concepts and procedures.
Uses math to define and solve problems.
Uses mathematical reasoning.
Communicates knowledge and understanding.
Connects mathematics to other subjects and everyday life.
Science
Knows and applies scientific concepts and principles to understand the properties, structures, and changes in physical, earth/space and living systems. Know and applies the skills, processes and nature of scientific inquiry.
Health/Physical Education
Demonstrate developmentally appropriate fundamental and complex movement skills.
Understands safety procedures and rules in a variety of developmentally appropriate physical activities.
Understand and begin to apply the components of physical fitness: cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
Compose nutrition goals based on national dietary guidelines and individual activity needs.
Analyze the effects of activity, fitness, and nutrition practices.
Understand the concepts and factors related to communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Arts
The student understands and applies arts knowledge and skills.
The student demonstrates thinking skills using artistic processes.
The student communicates through the arts.
The student makes connections within and across the arts to other disciplines, life, cultures, and work.
Social Studies
Understand and use inquiry and information skills required by citizens in a democratic society.
Understand and use interpersonal and group process skills required by citizens in a democratic society.
Understand and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to make informed and reasoned decisions.
Foreign Language
The student uses listening and observation skills and strategies to gain understanding.
The student uses communication skills and strategies to interact/work effectively with others.
The student uses communication skills and strategies to present ideas and one’s self in a variety of situations.
