MAPs—Making Academic Progress
What kind of progress is my child making in math, reading and language usage? Skagit Family Learning Center offers MAPs testing for third through eighth grade students.
• What is MAPs? This is a computer generated test for both math and reading that gives a score/grade level. It categorizes the assessment along the lines of the Washington State Essential Learning Requirements, and can easily be used to develop your child’s WSLP.
• Why use MAPs? Giving the MAPs to your child(ren) at the beginning and end of the year will give you a way of keeping track of your child(ren)’s progress overall.
• How does this compare with other tests such as the IOWA and the WASL? It does compare to the WASL in terms of what the score says about where your student might place on the WASL. I don’t have information on comparing to the IOWA.
• Can I use this year after year? Yes. That is the purpose of it. You would be able to compare your child(ren)’s progress from the beginning of the year to the end and from year to year.
